Large Alteration Work at Paper Mill

Betamet Service installed 51 wire guide and paper guide rolls for a Finnish mill that manufactures special paper. For the first time, Betamet Service was also responsible for all the designing.

Delivery included layout design, detail design, acquisitions, having parts manufactured, frame structure changes, mechanical installation, pipe system changes, as well as work supervision and construction supervision.

Thorough planning is the key to successful results
Remodeling an old machine is always challenging. For this reason, it is important to make measurements on site and to consider possible areas of risk thoroughly.

– The essential parts of the plan include making new rolls with a greater diameter than before, as well as creating bigger bearing housings, says  Mr. Sauli Arvonen from Betamet Service, who has led the planning of the project and worked as the main designer.

Alteration work was performed quickly
The most demanding targets for alterations were located in the lower wire unit and in the dryer section. In addition to this, installations were made with a reeler.

The work at the mill was done at the turn of May and June and lasted for about two weeks, and it employed 48 mechanics and supervisors of the Betamet Service and Betamet Automation in total. Betamet Automation made the pipe system changes.

Mr. Tero Orbinski worked as a site manager and Mr. Timo Kärki as a project manager. A successful project requires a motivated and professional staff and good cooperation between different partners.
– All the partners were satisfied with the progress and the results of the project, states Mr. Arvonen, who was responsible for designing for the end customer.
