Regional Entrepreneurial Prize to Betamet Group
On the 15th of November 2008, Betamet Group was given the Regional Entrepreneurial Prize of the entrepreneurs of North East Bothnia. The selection criterion was an enterprise’s progressive way of working innovatively, in cooperation with other enterprises in traditional lines of business. The working model developed by this group, has succeeded in the global markets.
Betamet Group is experienced in working with 20 countries in four continents. Behavioural cultures in faraway countries deviate from that of Finnish. This enterprise has acquired its varied know-how in demanding projects in the course of years. Good leadership is needed for working in challenging circumstances.
From small business to constant growth
Mr. Juhani Blomqvist and Mr. Aarne Ahonen, the founders and current owners of the enterprise, worked as working travellers abroad. After being acquainted with each other on a secondment in Europe, they began to think about establishing an enterprise.
– Since I was young, I dreamed about my own enterprise. I was 30 years of age when we established the company Betamet in 1993. I marked our first tools in the car shelter of my home, and in cold times in our sauna, says Mr. Juhani Blomqvist, the group leader.
The turnover of the company Betamet in the establishment year was scarcely a million Marks whereas, in 2007, it was 31 million Euros. The company employs about 200 people.
Confidence to be redeemed
Implementing projects efficiently is based on a close cooperation and good communications between a client and parties of a project.
– We invest in know-how, quality, flexibility and tight schedules. Follow-up of customer satisfaction and appreciating environmental aspects support our know-how. Confidential and long-term customer relations have an important role in our strategic plans, Mr. Blomqvist says.
Not all eggs put in one basket
The company Betamet began with installations of paper machines but even after a couple of years, it searched for another foothold in machine and equipment installations of steal industry. At the moment, mines are a significant market area.
Last year, the biggest project so far was the installation of the pellet factory of the mining company LKAB in Kiruna. The enterprise made large machine and equipment installations in the fibre line of the pulp mill in Uruguay, and mechanical and air conditioning installations of the entire paper production line for the factory of Plattling Papier in Germany.
The most significant projects of this year are at the Talvivaara Mine and at the Outokumpu Mill in Tornio. Mr. Juhani Blomqvist, the group leader, is slightly optimistic about future investments in steal and mining industry, too. Furthermore, there might be work to do with demolition work in factories later on.
