Local Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Prize Goes to Betamet Oy
The local association of entrepreneurs Oulun Yrittäjät granted the Entrepreneur of the year prize to Betamet Oy. The price was given to Juhani Blomqvist, the group president, by Jorma Ketola, chairman of Oulun Yrittäjät ry, at the Christmas party of the association 25th November.Betamet is a Finnish group specialised in installation projects and maintenance as well as engineering work, which offers total contracts and supervision of installation to industry all over the world. The group, founded in 1993, currently employs approximately 200 employees and its turnover was around 20.5 million euros in 2006.
Betamet relies on Finnish labour force; the majority of the group's commissions are realised by Finnish professionals. According to Blomqvist, Finnish work is still competitive thanks to good professional skill, even in international projects.
The Entrepreneur of the Year prize of Oulun Yrittäjät is granted by the board of Oulun Yrittäjät ry. There were many candidates this year, too, and the choice was not easy. The board considered that Betamet has contributed to the development of the locality through its action as an exemplary employer. The group has been growing steadily and continues to grow.
In addition to his own work, group president Blomqvist has participated actively in the development of trade and industry in the Oulu region. Among others, he has taken part in the development of the business strategy of the city of Oulu and acted as a backroom force in several similar workgroups.
The actions of Betamet Oy to promote local and national entrepreneurship and work support strongly the values of Oulun Yrittäjät in their work to promote appreciation for local know-how.
The Entrepreneur of the Year prize has been granted in Oulu since 1984.
